Katakana Literary Work (Draft)

きのう、ともだちはレストランへいきました。わたしはいきませんでした。しゅくだいがたくさんありましたから。

おなじです。まいにちまいんちはおなじです。ここのせいかつはむずかしいです。しゅくだいをします、そうしてべんきょうします。それだけです。まいにちバサバサです。ちょっとさびしいです。

そのレストランがわかります。なめあはトップカレ-です。あそこへいきたいです。。。

でも、しゅくだいがあります。きょうもバサバサです。あのう、そうだろうとおもいました。

Karē (Japanese Curry)
きょう、ともだちにしょうたいされました。いっしょにいきました。たべものがおいしかった、そうしてこんばんはたのしかった。しゅくだいがまだたくさんありますが、ぜんぜんうれいじゃありません。

おかしですね。

Vocabulary list:
おなじ = Same
バサバサ = Sound effect for moving or flipping of paper
トップカレ- = Fictional Restaurant named "Top Curry"
そうだろうとおもいました = That is what I thought.
しょうたいされました = I was invited (by the friend).
うれい = Sad

Rationale:

For this work, I wanted to express a small story of a person who was upset and depressed by his work and tasks but found a way to have fun anyway. I used the onomatopoeia "basa basa" to represent the shifting of the pages, showing the repetitiveness and dullness of the character's life. I made the fictional name of the restaurant using the English word "Top Curry" instead of a Japanese character to highlight it as a cool, fun option for him. I hope my usage made sense and strengthened the work.

Thank you for reading!

  1. Dear Shrey-san,

    I liked your story and commiserate with the character in it. Since your katakana literary work does not have too many usages of katakana in it, I think you could add a couple more usages. Perhaps you could use an onomatopoeic use to express his frustration at not being able to go or his excitement at finally going? In addition, since your character seems to be burdened by an unusual amount of homework, I think that you could use "ホームワーク" or even "シュクダイ" to emphasize his excessive workload.

    Looking forward to reading your final version,

    Stuart

  2. Dear Shrey-san,
    とてもおもしろいですね!One thing: should we translate "curry" into "カレ" or "カレー”? I guess the latter makes more sense. Also, it will be helpful if you highlight all the katakana in the literary work. I use red words to differentiate katakana from other words.
